Loss of use
Also known as: loss-of-use charge
A charge a rental company can seek for the income lost while a damaged car is repaired and off the road. It is separate from the repair cost itself and is not always covered by every waiver or policy.
Why it matters
Because loss of use is billed on top of repairs and some coverage excludes it, it can appear as an unexpected extra after a damage claim.
