Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC)
Also known as: DCC, dynamic currency conversion
An option at payment to be charged in your home currency instead of the local one, with the conversion done at the point of sale. The convenience of seeing a familiar currency often comes at a less favorable rate than letting your own bank convert.
What you may think
Paying in my home currency avoids fees.
What is actually happening
Dynamic currency conversion does the exchange at the terminal, usually at a poorer rate than your bank would use, so it can cost more.
Nifti note
For travelers: paying in the local currency and letting your own card convert is frequently cheaper than accepting DCC, though it depends on your card.
