ZTL
Also known as: ZTL, limited traffic zone, zona traffico limitato
Italy's limited-traffic zones in historic city centers, where only authorized vehicles may enter during posted hours. They are camera-enforced and a frequent, easily-missed source of fines for visitors in rental cars.
Why it matters
ZTLs are often unmarked to an unfamiliar driver and fines can arrive months later through the rental company, so they are worth knowing before driving into an old-town center.
