Vignette
Also known as: road tax sticker, motorway sticker
A prepaid permit, a sticker or its electronic equivalent, that allows use of motorways in some countries, bought for a set period rather than per journey. Required in parts of Central Europe and beyond, and separate from per-trip tolls.
Why it matters
Driving on a motorway without a required vignette can bring a fine, and a rental may or may not already include one, so it is worth checking per country.
